1. Mukutmonipur

Mukutmanipur has a giant water reservoir named Kangsabati Dam, which is the second biggest earth dam in India.It has the world’s longest man-made mud-banked fresh water barrage, extending for about 10.8 km. Located at the confluence of Kangsabati and Kumari rivers, Mukutmanipur is an extremely beautiful and picturesque location. It offers tourists unexplored nature, making the ambience blissful and charismatic. Apart from being one of the finest picnic spots, the area is also ideal for enjoying the adventure of rivers, hills and jungles. The town is situated at a distance of around 270 kilometers from the city of Kolkata and around 55 kilometers from the town of Bankura. Transport options to the place include buses, taxis and trains. This is an ideal tourist spot for nature loving people who wants to be in the nature only.

Boat riding in the river is an excellent idea to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the surrounding. And if you are bird observer then visit to the Bonpukuria Deer Park which can help you see some rarest of seasonal bird species. Parashnath hill, is the most important pilgrimage centres of Jains, is the highest peak in this area at 1350 metres. The name of the hill was derived from the name of the 23rd Jain Tirthankara.



2. Garpanchkot
Garh Panchakot was an ancient fort of the King of Panchkot during the 18th century. The palace was destroyed by Maratha army under Bhaskar Pandit. Garh Panchakot is surrounded by Panchakot hill and jungles which is located at north-eastern direction of Purulia. It is 2200 ft high and is covered with dense forests of mahua, palash and sal trees. The ruins of the Panchakot Palace are a silent testimony to the Bargi attack during the 18th century. The ruins of two temples exist in this area. The one on the western side is in a broken state. The other which is centrally located still stands with its intricate terracota designs of duck, creepers, dancing lady etc. Garh Panchakot is gaining popularity as a weekend getaway.





3. Purulia
Purulia is a land of natural beauty. The beautiful green landscape, dense forests and verdant hills make it a perfect natural destination that gives a peaceful surroundings to weary city dwellers. Purulia is situated in the western most part of the state of West Bengal is also a part of the Chotonagpur plateau which unravels her untapped mystery and wondrous beauty. The landscape is rocky and undulating. The tourism of Purulia centres round its hills, forests as well as its archeological excavations and the relics of ancient buildings and temples. Tribal ethos enriches the mystic charm and natural beauty of this land of red soil and red blooms of Palash. The region is home to different tribal communities like Santhals, Kurmis, Kherias-Sabars to name a few. Song and dance are an intrinsic part in the lives of the tribal people. Several rivers flow across Purulia. Among these Kangsabati, Kumari, silabati(silai),Dwarakeswar, Subarnarekha and Damodar are the important ones. Although several rivers flows across the district, 50% of the water run off due to the undulated topography. There are also several Small dams like Murguma, Pardi, Burda, Gopalpur, which are mainly used for irrigation of agriculture field. Saheb Bandh is one of the popular and famous waterbodies of Purulia. It is located in the heart of the purulia town. It is a shelter of the migratory birds which comes from Bangladesh, Burma, Pakistan, Baluchistan during December to March.

The prominent tourist spotsof the district are Ajodhya Hills, Matha, Murguma Dam and Kuilapal Forests, Jaychandi Pahar, Panchakote Raj, Duarsini Hills and Forests attract quite a good number of visitors to Purulia every year.
