SANTALBARI is small forest village with a tourist guesthouse of BUXA NATIONAL PARK in the DOOARS situated at JALPAIGURI DISTRICT. This place is the base point from where the trekking of BUXA FORT began. As near to the or better to say as this is a part of the BUXA NATIONAL PARK the forest and its wildlife are the prime attraction of this place. Several trek routes starts from SANTALBARI. To the adventures tourists this place is considered just as paradise. An watch tower is made near i.e. just 2 km. from SANTALBARI This watchtower standing at 450 meters has been erected at View Point. It has been built to keep watch on animals but tourists can also enjoy the view during the day time. This SANTALBARI also provides sum sorts of accommodation options to the trekkers and visitors of BUXA NATIONAL PARK.

Today we will enjoy the Jeep Safari in Buxa Tiger Reserve - If it is in the early morning or in the late evening, you may be the lucky chap to face the Tiger or the Leopard - The endangered species like Indian Tiger, Asian Elephant, Leopard cat, Bengal Florican, Regal Python, Chinese Pangolin, Hispid hare and Hog deer can be seen enrout. More than 400 species of trees, 250 species of shrubs, 400 species of herbs, 9 species of cane, 10 species of bamboo, 150 species of orchids, 100 species of grass and 130 species of aquatic flora including more than 70 sedges (Cyperaceae) have been identified so far. There are more than 160 species of other monocotyledons and ferns. The main species constitutes trees like Sal, Champa, Gamar, Simul, Chikrasi. In the Reserve more than 284 species of birds, 73 species of mammals, 76 species of snakes, 5 species of amphibians have been identified so far. In a recent survey (2006) it has been found that Buxa Tiger Reserve has the highest number of fish species in the North Bengal region. Apart from tigers animals like Elephants, bears, civets, giant squirrel, Gaur, Chital, clouded leopard, wild Buffalo, antelope and snakes including the Regal Python are found here. About 230 species of birds and innumerable butterflies add colour to the forest. The rivers of Raidak and Jayanti which flow through the forest and the Narathali lake are home to migratory birds as well as endemic ones which abound the place. The Hornbills including Greater Pied Hornbill, Ibisbill, Migratory Goosander, Red-stars, Wagtails, the rare black necked crane, migratory common teal, black stork, Large Whistling Teal, Minivets, White Eyed Poachared are some of the bird species sighted here. Two new species of frog have been discovered in the park in the year 2006. In the evening you may Visit Chunia Watch Tower through a Jeep Safari inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve.

Another forest is Raidak, which has everything to satisfy tourists. Sights of a group of elephants, chirping of birds and tea gardens on the way to Raidak will never let you feel stressed out. Endangered species of animals like tiger, rhinoceros, elephant, make their habitats in the forests other animals include different types of deer, bison, birds and reptiles. BHUTIA BASTI is an another forest village under BUXA NATIONAL PARK situated in the JALPAIGURI DISTRICT of West Bengal very close to JAINTI. Actually this is the point that connects JAINTI, HATIPOTA and BHUTANGHAT to each other. This is also considered as a human colony in BUXA NATIONAL PARK. BUXA TIGER RESERVE and its wildlife are the main attraction of this place along with the nearby River Raidak. Siting of Elephants are common here and the glimpse of Green-billed Malkoha, flock of Ashy wood swallows, Chestnut-tailed starlings, Scarlet Minivets, Red-breasted Parakeets, Imperial Green pigeons and one Rufous Woodpecker are almost granted. HATIPOTA is a Forest Range under BUXA NATIONAL PARK. It is also a forest village situated very close to JAINTI in the DOOARS REGION of JALPAIGURI DISTRICT. HATIPOTA is an enchanting spot and most upcoming tourist spot in DOOARS,The one of the distinct attraction of this hamlet is it appears to be a bit different than the other ranges as the type of vegetation and the under-growths are a bit different than the type of vegetation and undergrowth that are generally seen in the other parts of BUXA NATIONAL PARK. The core area of this HATIPOTA RANGE presents some real thick vegetation and there were a few places where most of the sunlight was obstructed by the thick forest canopy and even after a bright and fresh sunrise after a heavy rain, the distant corners of road can hardly be seen clearly. Many wilds including Elephants can commonly be seen here. Apart from the forest and its wild life this hamlet HATIPOTA is also enriched with sum fantastic natural beauty. It is surrounded with natural beauty of hills, jungle, rivers and tea gardens, The awesome Phaskhaowa River Bed having Tea Gardens in the back is a real treat for the eyes. Forest Safari (Optional) to Jaldapara & Khairbari National Park - The Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary is situated at the foothill of Eastern Himalayas on the bank of river Torsa in West Bengal. The vast grassland with patches of riverine forests, was declared a sanctuary in 1943 for protection of the great variety of flora and fauna. Principle among them is the Asiatic one horned Rhino. The sanctuary is a mixture of a mosaic of woods, grassland, swamps and streams. The Sanctuary covers an area of 216.51 sq km. Drained by rivers Torsa, Malangi, Hollong, Chirakhawa, Kalijhora, Sissamara, Bhaluka and Buri Torsa, the Sanctuary provides extensive grassland which is refuge to a wide variety of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. The sights of rhino in a muddy pond, the herd of elephant or the running deer are the thrilling experiences in Jaldapara. Please note the elephant rides are booked on the spot and cannot be reserved in advance. For most part of the year, the few elephants available are unable to serve the large number tourists who flock the Sanctuary. Jeep safari inside the forest is the other option of visiting inside the forest.
