A quiet resort town, PEDONG is ideal for those holiday seekers who want to spend their leisure time in serenity. Surroundings of Pedong has panoramic views of Kanchenjunga in the northwest to the Bhutan ranges in the east. Pedong has rewarding trekking trails. The forests are far richer than hills of the Darjeeling side, in and around Pedong are some places which the tourists are bound to adore and admire. Rikkissum or Rissisum: 6410 ft, a 6 km. drive from Pedong, it offers a glorious view of Kanchenjunga with a splendid view of Rishi valley in Sikkim. Ramithey: A destination from where one can enjoy the magnificent Kanchenjunga at the top and the long course of river Teesta at the foot of the surrounding hills.
After breakfast move out for Sight Seen / Bird Watching / Hicking - Return at afternoon - Visit to View Points - Overnight stay at Pedong. Near Pedong are the ruins of Damsang Gadi, a historical fort built in 1690 AD by the Lepchas. It was at the centre of the long-standing feud with the Dukpas of Bhutan. Later, it was used to ward off the forces of the British East India Company. After the Anglo-Bhutan War of 1864 AD, the fort fell into decay. The Damsang fort (Damsang Gadi) is the only fort in the entire district of Darjeeling. It was home to the last Lepcha King- Gyabo Achuk as the Lepcha people are the real natives of this place. Another highlight of the town is the Cross Hill, placed by priest Fr. Augustine Desgodins in 1882 AD on his way to Tibet. In the Tibet Mission a lot of Evangelists lost their lives or never came back from Tibet. Fr. Augustine Desgodins in due memory of them erected a cross at a vantage point facing Tibet directly with a hope that someday the evangelists may return. It is considered to have miraculous powers and is a pilgrimage site for the local Christians. The Cross Hill is located at such a point wherein the view of the facing mountains is magnificent. From here one can get a glimpse of Tibet or now the The peoples Republic of Chinese border. It is a perfect sunset point. Sangchen Dorjee Monastery is one of the oldest monastery in Pedong-Kalimpong region and was built during the Bhutanese rule. This Monastery was established around the early 1700 AD. It provides historical insight into the history and culture of the place. Known as Sangchen Dorjee Gumba also has fresco paintings on the inner walls of the main chamber depicting Tantric Buddhism.
After breakfast transfer to Algarah - Check in Guest House - Enjoy the scenic beauty through out the day - At afternoon enjoy the view points - Overnight stay at Algarah. Nestled in the lap of Mother Nature and set against the picturesque backdrop of paddy fields, pine trees, valleys and snow-capped mountains, "ALGARAH" is located at an altitude of 5840 ft. from sea level. Having a population of around 3000 and at a distance of 15 KMs from Main Town Kalimpong, it is considered as the Heart Of the Kalimpong Subdivision, as it connects the various places like Dooars, Neighbouring State Sikkim etc. The place is an epitome of "UNITY" as one can see the mingling of different traditions and cultures here. People belonging to varied caste and creed reside here carrying the Slogan Of Equality.
After breakfast move out for Sight Seen - Visit Delo Hills, Dr. Grahams House, Morgan House, Science Center, Monastry - Return at afternoon - Overnight stay at Algarah. Nepali is the common language spoken by the people. However other languages such as Hindi, English, Bengali etc. are understood and spoken in Algarah. This Place is Home to a Large Variety of Birds, Animals, Butterflies etc. Amidst the vast canopy of trees, mostly pine, Nature lovers and Birdwatchers deeply can indulge into the Mother Nature to their heart content. Algarah is famous for the remains of the ancient Damsang Gadi (Damsang Fort). It is said that the Lepcha king Gyabo Achuk had built this fort in 1690 with the help of spirits who brought the big round smooth stones from the Reshi river. The surrounding villages of this small town are Paiyung Busty, Santook Menzong, Tenderbong and Dalapchand. People of these villages depend on agriculture, floriculture, milk production, etc. for their living. Tenderbong Busty is very well known for the production of milk. Potato production is a major income source for the people of these villages.
